Saint Elizabeth invests $300,000 to expand hospice care in Vaughan

Hospice Vaughan is pleased to announce a new collaborative partnership with Saint Elizabeth Community Enterprise, a national leader in social innovation and impact.

As part of the agreement, Saint Elizabeth is providing Hospice Vaughan with $150,000 per year, for two years. The funding will play a key role in enabling Hospice Vaughan to realize its vision of creating a new 10-bed hospice and Centre of Excellence in palliative care for the City of Vaughan and beyond.

Slated to open in 2018, features of the new hospice will include:

  • 10 residential beds for end‐of‐life care, serving more than 200 people annually (one-quarter of current deaths in Vaughan)
  • A peaceful home-like setting including gardens, patios, family rooms and a full service kitchen
  • Enhanced hospice day programs
  • In-house counselling and bereavement supports for patients and their families
  • An institute for interprofessional education and research
“Saint Elizabeth has been helping Canadian families for more than 100 years and brings significant expertise in end of life care,” says Mary Grace Tatangelo, President of Hospice Vaughan. “We are thrilled to be teaming up to meet the growing need for palliative care in our local community.”

Nancy Lefebre, Senior Vice President at Saint Elizabeth adds: “Hospice Vaughan has stepped up to the plate with a bold vision that is powered by knowledge, new possibilities and grassroot support. This is a natural fit for us.”

As part of the partnership, Saint Elizabeth will serve as the Vision Sponsor for Hospice Vaughan’s annual Giving Thanks Gala on October 2, 2015. This year’s event promises to be the biggest and best yet – featuring an extraordinary evening of dining, dancing and entertainment including Saturday Night Jive along with Variation Music.
