Celebrating National Nursing Week

May 8-14, 2017 is National Nursing Week.

Saint Elizabeth is deeply rooted in nursing. Our story began in 1908 when four nurses came together in Toronto, Ontario to establish Saint Elizabeth Visiting Nurses Association at the request of the Archbishop to provide care to the poor, new moms and babies, and others in need.

Today, over 100 years later, Saint Elizabeth is Canada’s largest social enterprise with over 8,000 employees who are dedicated to spreading hope and happiness to their clients and their families every single day. Our vision at Saint Elizabeth is to honour the human face of health care, and it’s the hallmark of all that we believe and do.

Our nurses live this vision in their daily work as we truly embrace and enact the principles of person and family-centred care.

This year’s National Nursing Week theme is #YESThisIsNursing, which recognizes the evolving nursing roles with the influence of technology and expansion of digital technologies.

During National Nursing Week, we want to thank each and every one of our over 2,000 nurses for their commitment and passion towards spreading hope and happiness into lives of clients and their families every day, through all of things that they do – big and small.

Whether at home, online, in hospitals, or in classrooms, Saint Elizabeth nurses across Canada are employed in a wide range of roles, including:

  • Visiting nurses
  • Enterostomal Therapy nurses
  • Wound Ostomy Resource nurses
  • Nurse Continence Advisors
  • Virtual Health Coaches
  • Telepractice/virtual care nurses
  • Directing Registered Nurse (e-shift)
  • Clinical Practice Coaches
  • Clinical Practice Resource Team members
  • Advanced Practice Consultants
  • Clinical Pharmacy Service nurses
  • Administrative leadership
  • Clinical instructors
  • Curriculum developers
  • Foot care nurses
  • Theory instructors

And many more!

As you can see, Saint Elizabeth nurses are intricately woven in the fabric of all that we do here at Saint Elizabeth. Thank you to our nurses, both past and present, for helping to take Saint Elizabeth into the future of health care in Canada.
