Saint Elizabeth CEO Shirlee Sharkey receives honourary degree from UOIT

For her distinguished career, social innovation and breakthrough leadership in community healthcare excellence, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) has conferred upon Shirlee Sharkey the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws.

Upon receiving the distinguished award, Ms. Sharkey spoke to students from the faculties of education and health sciences during the university’s convocation ceremony on Thursday, June 8.

Ms. Sharkey shared some suggestions for the newly minted graduates to help them achieve success along the way - including the importance of staying focused, taking your responsibilities seriously and harnessing the power of people.

For more than 25 years, Ms. Sharkey has served as President and CEO of Saint Elizabeth Health Care, a national not-for-profit, charitable organization delivering more than seven million care exchanges annually through its team of 9,000 dedicated leaders and professionals.

Under Ms. Sharkey’s leadership, Saint Elizabeth has enjoyed exponential growth and expansion across Canada, the United States and beyond.
