Saint Elizabeth Health Care’s personal and home support (supportive care) services focus on both the client and the household that supports the client. Our aim is to offer client-centred, cost-effective, holistic home care that respects the individual and the family’s role in the client's care.

Clients are active partners with our care providers in planning a program that responds to their needs and personal preferences. Care plans include advocacy of increased independence and adaptation to disabilities or physical limitations.

Our supportive care staff provides a broad range of support services to clients of all ages and diagnoses. We have staff who, through additional training, education and experience, are familiar with the unique needs of those facing:

  • Progressive life threatening illness
  • Alzheimer’s or other dementias
  • Mental health concerns
  • Acquired brain injuries
  • Rehabilitation

We provide care to individuals and families with both acute, short-term needs as well as more complex, longer-term needs, in the comfort and convenience of the client’s home or other community settings. Services may also be provided in group homes, retirement homes, rest homes, homes for special care, hospitals, and other institutions and include:

  • Personal Support Services
  • Home Support Services
  • Respite Services

Personal Support Services

Illnesses and other health conditions can impair mobility, dexterity, judgment and perception, making it difficult to perform personal care tasks safely and in a way that prevents deterioration in overall health. Personal Support Workers can help postpone or prevent admittance to a residential care facility or ensure that the care delivered in such facilities meets an individual’s needs. Services include assistance with:

  • Grooming
  • Feeding
  • Toileting
  • Bathing and/or showering
  • Skin care
  • Lifting and moving
  • Exercises
  • Environmental safety
  • Bedside care
  • Medication assistance

In addition, Personal Support Workers with client-specific, supervised training can provide assistance with activities of daily living, such as bowel and bladder care and the use of special equipment and adaptive devices).

Home Support Services

Sometimes just getting help with the day-to-day activities is all that is needed for a person to remain at home. We employ Home Support Workers and Health Care Aides who can provide help with:

  • Meal planning and preparation
  • Meal preparation (special diets)
  • Light housekeeping
  • Grocery shopping
  • Laundry
  • Ironing
  • Errands
  • Banking
  • Accompanying individuals to appointments

Respite Services

In many situations, family members provide most or all of the care a loved one may require. Saint Elizabeth Health Care understands that full-time and long-term caregiving can tire even the most loving parent, spouse or child. It can be very stressful and even endanger the health of the caregiver if it continues for too long without a break. This is where our respite services can help. Saint Elizabeth Health Care’s care providers are available to fill in for caregivers and provide them with a well-deserved rest for just a few hours, overnight or for several days as required.

Services for Specialty Client Groups

In order to meet the unique needs of specialty client groups, Saint Elizabeth Health Care invests in special training for our staff some of the areas of focus include:

  • Palliative care
