Therapy Program

Established to treat illness and accident-related injuries, the goal of Saint Elizabeth Health Care’s therapy services is to facilitate an individual’s recovery and return to the highest level of function and lifestyle possible. This is accomplished through high-quality, cost-effective therapy services delivered with a client-centred approach, in partnership with the person's care team in a seamless continuum of care.

Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy prevents disability, improves performance and functional status, and enhances health and spiritual well-being. This promotes the achievement of maximum independence and a satisfying lifestyle. Occupational therapists are regulated, licensed health professionals who focus on the analysis and application of activities specifically related to the areas of self-care, work and leisure.

Through assessment of a person’s physical, sensory, cognitive, intrapersonal and interpersonal skills, the occupational therapist identifies problems impeding function and selects therapeutic activities for the treatment plan.

Assisting individuals of all ages impaired by illness or injury, an emotional disorder or the aging process, occupational therapy prevents disability, improves performance and functional status, and enhances health and spiritual well-being. This promotes the achievement of maximum independence and a satisfying lifestyle.

Our custom-designed occupational therapy interventions include assessment, treatment and intervention in the following areas:

Physiotherapy

As regulated, licensed health professionals, physiotherapists assess an individual’s physical function, and plan and implement customized treatment programs to restore, improve or maintain physical function, and prevent or alleviate movement dysfunction.

Assessments
A comprehensive physical assessment of an individual's current physical status identifies problems and determines the impact of the person’s present condition on his or her ability to function.

Components of the assessment include musculo-skeletal, cardio-respiratory and neurological conditions. We also help identify barriers to recovery and long-term outcomes.

Treatments and Interventions

A home-based, client-centred treatment and education plan is developed to address the following:

  • Restoration and improvement of function and joint motion
  • Progressive muscle strengthening & increased co-ordination
  • Pain management and injury prevention

Speech Language Pathology

Our speech language pathologists are regulated, licensed professionals who assess, diagnose and treat problems with communication and swallowing.

The goal is to work closely with the client, family and other team members, helping to restore or enhance the communication skills of clients with acquired brain injuries, neurological or traumatic head injuries, cerebral palsy and/or disorders such as multiple sclerosis or developmental delays.

We provide custom-designed assessment and treatment programs with the client and family, to address disorders and impairments affecting the following:

  • Dysphasia and other communication disorders
  • Motor speech & language
  • Perceptual problems & cognitive functioning
  • Conversational skills
  • Reading, writing
  • Augmentative communication
