Mental Health & Addiction Program

Saint Elizabeth Health Care’s Mental Health & Addiction Program is dedicated to providing a continuum of high quality, cost-effective services for individuals with mental health issues (who may concurrently suffer from an addiction) and their families. Working in partnership with other health care organizations, our program provides integrated, accessible mental health and addiction supports, as well as education and advocacy designed to help individuals achieve their optimal level of independence and wellness.

Our Mental Health and Addiction Program:

  • Supports clients in their own environment to the highest degree possible
  • Provides healthy and supportive community alternatives to hospitalization and bridges the hospital and community sectors
  • Assists clients and families in achieving and maintaining optimal levels of independence, integration and wellness
  • Provides holistic treatment and support, recognizing the biophysical and psychosocial nature of serious mental illness
  • Advocates for clients and families
  • Supports integrated health care service delivery through extensive community linkages and partnerships
  • Collaborates in research projects and knowledge sharing initiatives
  • Incorporates innovative delivery approaches

Saint Elizabeth Health Care's highly skilled multidisciplinary staff includes nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, as well as individuals with diverse backgrounds in counselling and behavioural services. These individuals are trained in a wide range of specialty areas including addictions, child and family mental health, geriatric mental health, and multilingual and ethno-racial services.

This wealth of knowledge and experience enables Saint Elizabeth Health Care to provide the following comprehensive range of mental health and addiction services:

Non-Intrusive In-Home Support and Treatment
In-home support is designed for people experiencing serious mental health issues and people who require acute and/or long term mental health care. Intensive home treatment is an alternative to in-hospital treatment for people with severe and persistent mental illness who encounter a period of difficulty with their illness. Individuals may also have a concurrent substance abuse problem.

Psychogeriatric Services
The psychogeriatric component of Saint Elizabeth Health Care’s Mental Health & Addiction Program is integrated with our Long-Term Care & Gerontology Program. These services are designed to help maximize the independence of seniors with mental health issues and prevent the early hospitalization of elderly individuals experiencing depression, Alzheimer's disease and other psychiatric disorders.

Integrated Mobile Crisis Services
Saint Elizabeth Health Care’s integrated mobile crisis services are built on networks of community linkages and partnerships to offer timely crisis response to adults with serious mental illness who are experiencing an acute psychiatric crisis. Services are multidisciplinary and include:

  • 24-hour telephone access
  • Timely mobile crisis response, including specialized geriatric mental health services
  • Pre-crisis support
  • Linkages to mental health and community services
