Admission Requirements
Applicants must:
- Provide proof of grade 10 education or international equivalent. Students who do not meet this requirement may qualify for mature-age-entry (be at least 19 years of age, have a minimum of 2 years work experience, and obtain a minimum score of 70% on the HCA entrance exam).
- Be at least 19 years of age.
- Complete and submit the HCA program admission application form.
- Have the ability to communicate fluently in English (completion of a standardized English assessment test is required for all applicants to the HCA program).
- Attend a personal interview with the program Training Coordinator.
- Provide evidence of a clean criminal record. Students who start the program without having received the final police report may submit proof (payment receipt) of having requested the criminal reference check. A student admitted to the program without having received a clean criminal record report is admitted on the condition that they will receive a clear criminal reference report.
- Provide a medical certificate, completed by a licensed physician, who states that the applicant is in good physical and mental health and free from communicable diseases (including proof of negative TB and up to date immunization vaccinations). A student admitted to the program without having received evidence of suitable medical health is admitted on the condition that they will receive evidence of a suitable medical health.
- Have successfully taken CPR-level C & First Aid within the past 12 months, or provide proof of registration in a CPR-level C & First Aid course to be completed within the first month of the program.
- Have the physical ability to assist clients with mobility and transfers.
- Enjoy working with individuals and families from all cultural backgrounds.
