WHY: To raise funds and public awareness for the issues of caregiver support. More than 3 million Canadians provide informal home care to a loved one, yet only one in four receive any type of publicly-funded home care assistance. Furthermore, 25 per cent of employed persons provide home care to a relative or friend (between 26 and 80 hours per month) and 46 per cent provide some level of eldercare (Statistics Canada, 2002).
