Roundtable Update:

March 14, 2007 - Home care stakeholders articulate a future vision for home and community care in Canada.

SEHC to co-host national roundtable on the future of home care

Event to examine current and future role of home care in Canada, and push for practical recommendations to move toward a national vision

Ottawa, November 22, 2006 - Home care represents one of the fastest growing sectors of health spending in Canada, and demand for home care services is only expected to rise.

While the approaches to home care in Canada's provinces and territories differ considerably in their funding and delivery models, it is widely held that home care offers cost effective new options for quality services into the future. So what role should home care play within the Canadian healthcare system? How can the best models of delivery be identified and implemented? These questions, and many others, will be addressed within the context of three themes: policy direction, service delivery, and research priorities and gaps.

To address some of these questions, the Public Policy Forum will facilitate a one day Roundtable event. Co-hosted by Saint Elizabeth Health Care and VON Canada, and with support from Health Canada, Telus, the Health Council of Canada, Canada Health Infoway, CIHR Institute of Aging, and the SickKids Foundation, The Roundtable on the Future of Homecare will bring together a broad range of perspectives, from policymakers and researchers to practitioners and community groups.

Participants will hear from a host of expert panelists during the morning session. Following a luncheon keynote address, participants will split up into break-out groups in order to outline a collective vision of the role of home care in Canada, and to craft practical recommendations to move this vision forward. A detailed program will be released shortly.

The Roundtable on the Future of Homecare will be held at the Hilton Lac-Leamy, located at 3, boulevard du Casino, in Gatineau, on February 5, 2007. Panel presentations and discussions will be held in both official languages. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided.

Help determine the future of home care in Canada. Reserve your seat at the table now by filling in the online registration form.
