Community health nursing steps into limelight with national, provincial awards

Toronto, ON, June 28 – Saint Elizabeth Health Care (SEHC) has been honoured with three prestigious awards that recognize its outstanding leadership and commitment to advancing the nursing profession and knowledge initiatives in home and community care.

Nancy Lefebre, chief clinical executive and senior vice president of knowledge and practice, was presented with the Nursing Leadership Award from the Canadian College of Health Services Executives at its national awards ceremony in Toronto on June 10. Building on the theme of patient-centred care, this award recognizes Nancy’s ongoing commitment to advancing quality and excellence in nursing both within and outside the organization.

Nancy is also the recipient of the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO)’s Award of Merit for her outstanding contributions to RNAO and to the profession of nursing in Ontario. In her more than 20 years with SEHC, Nancy has held a variety of positions, from front-line nursing practice to progressive management and senior leadership roles. For the past several years, she has been leading the integration of knowledge creation and the operational aspects of knowledge transfer throughout SEHC, positioning the organization as a knowledge leader in health care.

SEHC is a recognized leader at the forefront of integrating best practice guidelines and evidence-informed decision-making into home and community care. This, combined with its significant achievements in creating an amazing professional practice environment through innovative human resources practices, has earned the organization honours from the CHSRF/CIHR Chair in Nursing Health Human Resources. The Chair Achievement Award celebrates individuals and organizations that have played a key role in identifying, advocating for and implementing innovative initiatives to promote healthy workplaces for nurses and other health care professionals.

“We extend our congratulations to Saint Elizabeth Health Care and its leaders for their vision, support and hard work in building a work environment of learning opportunity and expertise in community care nursing,” said Dr. Linda O’Brien-Pallas, CHSRF/CIHR National Chair, Nursing Health Human Resources.

A blind review was conducted by a panel of judges who agreed that SEHC’s nomination and support letters demonstrated strong evidence of a variety of innovative and successful initiatives for positive nurse and client outcomes, including research, best practice guidelines, evidence-informed decision-making, tuition assistance, mentorship programs and e-learning.

“These awards are a wonderful reflection of the high caliber of nursing talent at SEHC, our shared passion for the nursing profession, and our unwavering commitment to creating a positive and empowering health care experience for clients and families,” said Shirlee Sharkey, president and chief executive officer. “On behalf of our leadership team, our Board and the communities we serve throughout Canada and the world, I would like to congratulate all of our award winners on their outstanding achievements.”

Saint Elizabeth Health Care (SEHC) is a Canadian not-for-profit charitable organization that shares its talent and wisdom nationally and internationally through direct care and service, consultation and education and e-learning to support the transformation of care for families, health organizations and communities.
