Saint Elizabeth Health Care Foundation expands Caregiver program to Oakville and Mississauga with donation from TELUS
TELUS donates $50,000 to bring home care to more than 400 families

Toronto, October 28 – Saint Elizabeth Health Care (SEHC) today announces the expansion of the Caregiver Support Program to the Oakville and Mississauga Regions, thanks to a $50,000 donation from TELUS. The program will provide home care support and resources to over 400 families across these two regions.

The SEHC Foundation’s Caregiver Support Program provides informal family caregivers and their families with the practical skills and support necessary to more effectively manage home care needs of their loved ones. The program expansion will enable families to receive approximately 2,000 hours of respite care (relief), education and training in delivering home care, and counseling and support.

“With the increasing aging population and the shift away from institutionalized care, there is a growing demand for more support within home and informal health care,” said Shirlee Sharkey, president and CEO of SEHC. “We have identified a strong need within the Oakville and Mississauga communities for this type of support and we are proud to announce the expansion into these two regions thanks to this donation from TELUS.”

“TELUS is pleased to fund this expansion of the Caregiver Support Program in order to facilitate better home care in Oakville and Mississauga,” said Barry Rivelis, TELUS vice president, Healthcare. “At TELUS we support initiatives that help modernize the Canadian health care system and that are making a positive difference for families in the communities where we live and work. “

The SEHC Foundation’s Caregiver program began in 2004 to meet the growing need for supporting the over three million Canadians providing informal home care. The program provides essential charitable respite care (relief), counseling, support and education to family caregivers in need. The program currently exists in seven communities across Ontario now with the expansion to the Oakville and Mississauga regions.
