POSITION SUMMARY:

One of Canada's most comprehensive driver rehabilitation programs, Saint Elizabeth's Driver Assessment and Training Services, provides driver assessment, evaluation and training for clients with physical, cognitive and psychological disabilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist Occupational Therapists to conduct in car assessments and training utilizing adaptive equipment when required

  • Deliver effective driving instruction to clients with disabilities

  • Prepare vehicles with adaptive equipment requirements and sustain vehicle maintenance schedules

  • Assist clients with MTO process

  • Document behind wheel performance and communication of same to Occupational Therapists

  • Effectively respond to client needs and concerns

  • Liaise regularly and effectively with team members

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certification as an Ontario Driving Instructor

  • Experience with modified vehicles and adaptive driving equipment is strongly preferred

  • Experience with senior drivers, DriveABLE or medical driving assessments is an asset.

  • A  valid Class G Ontario Driver License with an excellent driving record

  • Highly organized and motivated individual with exceptional problem solving skills

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills

  • Ability and flexibility to work in a fast paced, ever changing environment

  • Understanding of the needs of the elderly and clients with disabilities

  • Knowledge of driving with disabilities would be an asset.

  • OTA, PTA, rehabilitation service worker or adult education background is an asset
